Canned Tuna Recall: Impact of Trader Joe, Heb, Walmart and Publix Products


If you recently purchased canned tuna from Trader Joe, Heb, Costco, or Walmart, you may want to throw it away.

This is because they recently issued a nationally-wide recall of products on design concerns that could cause botsy.

According to a press release from the Food and Drug Administration (FDA), Tri-Union seafood began recall on February 7th. The recall will affect canned tuna products sold under the brand names Genoa, Van Camp, Heb and Trader Joe.

The brands of the products that have been recalled, as well as the states and stores in which they were sold, are listed below.

The popular frozen meals for sale in Aldi were recalled in 31 states due to metal contamination.

  • Heb Label – Texas
  • Trader Joe’s Label – Illinois, Illinois, Indiana, Iowa, Kansas, Kentucky, Maryland, Michigan, Minnesota, Missouri, Nebraska, New Jersey, New York, North Carolina, Ohio , Pennsylvania, Virginia, Washington, DC, Wiscony Nin
  • Genova 7 oz. – Costco in Florida and Georgia
  • Genova 5 oz. -Harris Teeter, Publix, Heb, Kroger, Safeway, Walmart, Alabama, Arkansas, Arizona, Arizona, Florida, Georgia, North Carolina, New Jersey, Tennessee, Texasas
  • Van Camp Label – Walmart and independent retailers in Pennsylvania, Florida and New Jersey

The manufacturer said the recall was “from a wealth of caution” after being warned of defects in the can.

“This voluntary recall is a possibility from a supplier that “easy open” pull tabs can cover limited products and encounter manufacturing defects that can impair product integrity. Following the notification, it is out of the abundant attention. It will be contaminated with a leak, or even worse, a potentially fatal form of food poisoning, Bottridium clostridium,” the press release details.

“Consumers are warned not to use the product even if it is not ruined.”

Gerber’s teething stick was recalled after an emergency room visit: “Please return the product.”

According to the Centers for Disease Control and Prevention (CDC), botulinism can lead to dyspnea, muscle paralysis, and in the most serious cases.

“When people eat these foods [contaminated with Clostridium botulinum]if they don’t receive appropriate treatment quickly, they could become seriously ill or even die,” the CDC website noted.

Tri-Union seafood advised consumers to immediately seek medical attention if they feel sick after eating one of the affected products, but so far, No cases have been reported.

“If you have a recalled tuna can, please return it to the retailer for a full refund and throw it away or contact Tri-union’s seafood directly for a coupon for acquisition kits and replacement products.” The statement concluded. “Consumers can contact Tri-Union Seafood if they have questions or request a replacement product at support@thaiunionhelp.zendesk.com or 833-374-0171.”

Tri-Union seafood did not immediately respond to Fox Business’s request for comment.
