Cloris Leachman’s Brentwood mansion sells for .9 million

Legendary actress Cloris Leachman’s former Los Angeles mansion is up for sale.

The 10,595-square-foot home in Brentwood is on the market for $19.9 million in partnership with Compass listing agents Sally Forster Jones and Kathryn Perkins.

Leachman owned the property from 1971 to 2000, but his former home was demolished and the current six-bedroom, seven-bathroom mansion was completed in 2003, according to the Robb Report.

In addition to the main areas of the house, the three-storey house also has a lounge with kitchenette, billiard room, sauna, cinema, wine cellar and a soundproof playroom on the lower floor.

The sunny conservatory offers views over the lush greenery to the rear of the house, while the uncovered patio offers an outdoor dining area and lounge space. A separate outdoor dining area is located in the backyard next to the large swimming pool.

Leachman got her big break in Hollywood when she joined the cast of “The Mary Tyler Moore Show” in season 1 and quickly became a fan favorite. She played Phyllis Lindstrom, the mean neighbor and friend of main character Mary Richards.

The role was not only beloved by fans, but also by critics, earning Leachman two Emmy Awards. The character’s popularity led to her own spin-off, “Phyllis,” which ran for two seasons from 1975 to 1977. This show won her a Golden Globe Award and was nominated for an Emmy Award again.

She also won an Academy Award in 1971 for her supporting role in “The Last Picture Show.”

Leachman continued to act in her later years, appearing in many comedies including Raising Hope, The Ellen Show, and The Office, and won a total of eight Emmy Awards in her career. Despite winning multiple awards for comedic roles, Leachman never considered himself funny.

“I never thought I was funny or that I could be funny. It was my sister who was funny,” Leachman told FOX411’s Pop Tarts column in April 2013.

“She was a lovely person,” he said. “She was a sweet woman, but we got along really well and really dug each other out. When we first started the show, she taught me not to worry about reading the teleprompter or rewinding the script…We improvised and it worked.”

“She used what was there,” he added. “She didn’t cry about it. She was proud of herself and didn’t like being bound by rules and regulations. She was a free cat. She was just wonderful, a great actress, and she came up with some great ideas.”
