President Trump to negotiate Taiwan trade deal including semiconductor investment

President Donald Trump’s administration is negotiating a trade deal with Taiwan that could see the autonomous island resume investment in semiconductors and other advanced technologies in the United States, according to a new report.
A potential agreement reported by Reuters would also see major Taiwanese chip makers like TSMC expand their operations in the United States and further train American workers. In return, the technology investment would contribute to a larger agreement in which the Trump administration would reduce the current 20% tariff level on other Taiwanese products.
However, the White House has remained silent on the possibility of negotiations.
White House Press Secretary Khush Desai told Reuters: “Until President Trump makes an announcement, any reports of a potential trade deal are speculation.”
