Spelling and McDermott first met on the set of “Mind Over Murder.” At the time, the two were married to different people. They eventually developed a romantic relationship and got married in 2006.

The pair spotlighted their family life on the show Tori & Dean: In Love. The show followed the couple as they started a family. Throughout their marriage, they had five children: Liam (2007), Stella (2008), Hattie (2011), Finn (2012), and Beau (2017).

Spelling and McDermott faced financial scrutiny during the final years of their marriage. The “90210” star filed for divorce in March 2024, and McDermott also filed suit a few months later. In documents filed in Los Angeles County Superior Court, the Canadian actor cited “irreconcilable differences” as the reason for his separation from Spelling, and set their separation date as July 7, 2023.

The court issued a final judgment on the couple’s divorce on November 13, recognizing them as legally single. Spelling and McDermott were granted joint legal custody of their five children, allowing the actress to spend significantly more physical time with them.

Ms. McDermott ultimately chose not to seek spousal support, and the couple decided to waive the court’s right to modify the decision in the future. They also took different approaches to child support. Each person will be responsible for the expenses while the child is in the care of the child, and medical and extracurricular expenses will be divided equally.

The court granted Spelling full intellectual property rights to “BH90210.” All revenue streams associated with the hit show, including SAG-AFTRA balances, digital royalties, and future license fees, are vested solely in Spelling’s possession, and McDermott has no ongoing claim to these revenues.

Previous “Tori & Dean” projects were shared 50-50 between the former couple. These include “In Love/Home Sweet Hollywood,” “sTORIbook Weddings,” “Cabin Fever,” “True Tori” and “Cooking Channel Specials.”
