Why are Social Security benefits paid in May this year?

Social Security beneficiaries will ensure payments arrive a little later than this month due to the safety net program’s payment calendar quirk.
The Social Security Administration (SSA) determines the payment dates for most beneficiaries based on their date of birth.
Beneficiaries born between the 1st and 10th of the month will be paid on the second Wednesday of the month. Those born between the 11th and 20th will receive a check on the third Wednesday. Anything born after the 20th will be paid on the fourth Wednesday.
In May, payments for the second Wednesday and first round fell on May 14th. This is the latest day of the first tranche of any month on the 2025 calendar.

There are several other months to date after the initial benefit payment. This will decrease on February 12th, and decrease on November 13th and November 12th.
Social Security recipients who have begun receiving benefits distributions by May 1997 or receive both Social Security and Supplementary Security Income (SSI) will have profits paid on various dates, with Social Security in the first month and SSIs in the day.
For some retirees, social security checks will be bigger in April

Beneficiaries who also receive SSIs will receive payments twice in May. This month’s benefits were paid on May 1st, but payments from June 1st to June 30th will be distributed over this weekend.
The SSA recommends that if the beneficiary has not received the electronic payment on the scheduled date, it must first contact the bank or financial institution in case of a delay.
If payments are delayed for more than three days, the agent will instruct the beneficiary to contact the SSA directly to report any missing payments.
