US lawyer rejected by the Judicial Department in a push to escalate investigation into Schumer

Ed Martin, a US lawyer for the District of Columbia, quietly promotes quietly presenting evidence on comments he made about Supreme Court judges in 2020, according to people with knowledge of the situation.

Last month, Martin wrote to Schumer a letter requesting “information and clarification” of his remarks made at the rally on March 4, 2020, signaling his intention to take an offensive approach.

“You’ve released a whirlwind, and you’ll pay the price!” Schumer said at the rally that he worked on his remarks to Justice Kavanaugh and Judge Gorsuch. Schumer’s staff retracted his statement, and the senator apologized a day later, saying “I shouldn’t have used the words I used.”

Schumer added that he referred to “political consequences” rather than violent retaliation, and he spoke about his upbringing in Brooklyn.

Presenting evidence to the large ju judge investigating Schumer would be a substantial escalation of Martin’s efforts. It allows prosecutors to summon records and witnesses, giving them a broad mandate to dig into dim-rogical information – even if Schumer never gets charged with accusations of inciting violence against civil servants.
