Former England captain and ashes winner Andrew’s 19-year-old Corey Flintoff has signed a two-year rookie contract with Kent, allowing him to face the Rocky Brothers this season at the county championships.

A fast bowling all-around like his father, Corey is qualified for Kent around his university studies after joining a county tutored by former Slay and British skipper Adam Holioke.

The teenager who went through the Lancashire road bowled four tidy overs in a two-day warm-up with Essex in Kent ahead of Northamptonshire’s County Championship Division 2 opening from April 4th following last week’s relegation.

Corey vs. brother Rocky from Division 2?

Corey’s younger brother, Rocky, 16, will join Division 2 along with Lancashire, who will drop out of the top flight in 2024.

Kent will be welcome to Canterbury in a month before playing Lancashire at Blackpool in June.

Rocky won the county championship and made his One Day Cup debut at Lancashire last summer, but this winter he became the youngest player to win a century for the England Lions, breaking his father’s record when he reached three numbers against Brisbane’s Cricket Australia XI.

Andrew Flintoff, who played for England more than 200 between 1998 and 2009, was the Lions head coach on that tour.

Corey Flintoff: Kent is the right place for me

On his way to Kent, Corey said: “I am pleased to continue developing as a player under Adam Holioke and the excellent coaching staff. The young people in the dressing room are so welcoming I have a great atmosphere here.

“For me, I’m excited about the next thing: I know that Kent is the perfect place to step into first team cricket.”

Kent, director of Cricket Simon Cook, said:

“I know he’s extremely hardworking and very determined to make his name in professional cricket. I’m pleased that he feels he can do this as a Kent cricket player.”
