Padres Designated batter Lewis Arez He was carried out from the field after a horrifying collision with Houston Astros second baseman Mauricio Dubon in San Diego’s 3-2 victory Sunday night. Arraez was taken to hospital before returning to the post-game stadium.
San Diego manager Mike Schilt said the situation was “a best case scenario with Lewis.”
“It’s obviously very scary,” Schilt said. “I think he’s mostly out in the woods. You know more time, but the first test is very preferred. There’s no fracture of any kind, which means he had a bit of a laceration in the jawline.
“We’ve been burned in tests before, so we’re cautiously optimistic,” he said. “It’s obviously a concern because he had a period of time when he didn’t know where he was. Everything was back on him and his first test from a concussion point of view was a favourite, but obviously we’re not in the woods.
According to the San Diego Union Tribune, Arraez stays in Houston overnight.
At the top of the first inning, Arez was putting up a drag bunt and trying to beat a throw to one base. Dubon came over to cover the bag and caught a toss from one base hand Christian Walker When Dubon inadvertently crashed into Arez, Alez seemed to hit Dubon’s arms and elbows in his face.
Both players hit the ground, but Alez took the worst and lay motionless in the foul area next to first base as trainers and coaches from both teams emerged in his tendency.
“It was scary,” Dubon said. “I mean, I’m just watching him not move. It was scary. Especially people know the type of player I am. I’m not a dirty player either. It’s awful. The worst part about it is getting death threats from things like this and everything.
Dubon and Walker, etc. Fernando Tatis Jr.. and Manny Machado Arraez was placed on the backboard and stood up and watched him being driven from the stadium. As he was placed in the cart, Alez placed his arm around Silt.
“It was a sad moment. Especially when you get closer to him and see him on such a ground, you definitely get scared,” said Tatis, who hit the tie-break home run of the game. “You almost shed tears, but you hold on. You sit right next to him and immediately start praying for him. He’s already back with us. Just happy, he’s up. That’s the sad part of the game, but it happens from time to time.
Tatis, who was in second place in the play, said he had heard of the conflict.
“As soon as they called time out, I went to see the boy and see what was going on,” he said.
Dubon said he knows Ares.
“That’s what I’m saying,” Dubon said. “It’s just about making that play for him and everything. Like I said before, there was nothing I could do. I was trying to support myself and I was going to get the worst from it. I mean, I’m not a big guy.”
Ares gave a thumbs up to the crowd as he left Daikin Park. There was an 11 minute delay before the game resumed.
Arraez hit 0.287 with three home runs and seven RBIs in the season.
