Pep Guardiola: Man City boss says other clubs would have fired him based on the outcome of this season | Football News

Manchester City manager Pep Guardiola says he has been fired by other clubs following a long, unwinning run by the Premier League Champions this season.
City will face rival Manchester United at Old Trafford Super Sundaylive Sky Sportsseeking to keep the Champions League football push next season. Now it’s starting to look like the side that won the last four Premier League titles.
However, such a scenario seemed like a distant dream for city fans after enduring a horror run of one victory with one victory in 13 matches in all competitions in November and December, then tormenting them in seven completely unfamiliar places at the Boxing Day table.
The manager is also holding his hands, but the weakened injury list, including Keyholding midfielder Rodri’s season-ending ACL, was attributed to a surprising slump.
“One of the main reasons is that there are not many players injured in the key division, so we only competed with 12-13 senior players on the team,” Guardiola said.
“It’s difficult every three days. I’ve had a lot of problems in the past, and there have been a lot of problems, not as much as this season, but there have always been a lot of things. I’ve always been able to bounce back and overcome the situation.
“This season, I couldn’t help the team do it. I couldn’t find the right trick. In the past I was able to guide them.
However, Guardiola admits that after his team won four consecutive titles, he expected a drop-off in some way, but he didn’t think it would be this tough.
“I’ve said it many times, but I’ve said it very honestly – the success we had in the past, which surprised me because I didn’t expect it,” he said.
“This season, more or less over the past season or two, I said that it will happen.
“I thought, ‘Okay, we’re going to drop.’ However, from a result perspective, and from a performance perspective, we fell unexpectedly. ”
In fact, when heading to the previous Manchester Derby at Etihad in December, Guardiola, who signed a new two-year deal in November, even said that if his team work doesn’t win immediately, his job at City would be under threat.
City lost again for United to win 2-1 late. Guardiola said he had lost his job at any other club without all the success he’d brought to Etihad since 2016.
“I would definitely have been fired at other clubs without any recent success,” he said. “This is a big club where you have to deliver good things.
“But I think all of us, our staff, myself, are worthy of the opportunity after what we had in the past.
“In another club, in another environment, we lost a lot of games at a big club. That can’t happen. But fortunately, they [the City board] It gave me a vote of confidence to continue. ”
However, Guardiola, looking forward to the next season, said he is hoping for a return to the old town.
“In that moment, we had a bad moment, but in football, in sports, you have that period, so I said many times, you can’t win every competition you’re in,” he said.
“We can’t always win because it’s simply impossible. So when we won last season in the Premier League, we won the next decade, I never expect.
“So many things have happened. Last season, that doesn’t mean that next season will happen. It won’t happen like next season. Of course, we definitely have to change things.
And Guardiola said he and his players will give it all in the final eight games of the campaign to compete in the Champions League next season, but he is currently sitting in fifth place.
“Are there still some important clubs out there that haven’t played in the Champions League in the last three, four or five years? The clubs will find a solution,” he said. “Of course we want to be there, but what’s next just in case that doesn’t happen? We can’t just stop and complain all the time.
“Of course, it’s in our hands. We have eight games. So we want it. We’ve been the only club in the last 15 years and we’ve been in the Champions League every season. That’s consistency.
“The club won’t die, in terms of what we have to do next season, being there. But of course we have a derby on Sunday.
However, Guardiola thinks he has seen enough from his final two victories at Bournemouth in the city’s FA Cup quarterfinals at Bournemouth on Sunday, and at his league’s Leicester City home on Wednesday, to give his true beliefs to give him his true beliefs.
“In the last two games, I saw what I like,” he added. “I remember a few things we saw in the past, and this is something we have to build from there.”
