At the American Express at La Quinta Country Club in California, Charlie Hoffman and Rico Hoey hit two 63s to take the lead at halftime.

“Three years ago, I wasn’t very healthy and I wasn’t a very good golfer,” Hoffman said.

“I feel good in the moment, and like I said, I woke up this morning and felt completely different.

“When I’m healthy and the weather is warm, I feel like I can beat anyone in the world. When I’m cold and my back doesn’t feel right, I feel like I can’t beat anyone in the world.”

Hoey continued, “This is my second year on tour, so I still feel like a star in a lot of the guys, like Hoffman, Cantlay, Ricky, etc.

“For me, just getting my name out there and keeping up with them is really great, so that’s all I’m trying to do.”
